The Youth Climate Ambassador educates museum visitors and community members in climate change science and climate action initiatives. Ambassador receive trainings on communication and climate science, and develop their own "climate story" to deliver to many audiences around Portland.


Participate in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:

  • Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
  • Supporting OMSI's Total Guest Experience (TGE)/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Present climate change themed educational content to museum visitors and community members at locations outside of OMSI (including, but not limited to, virtually, at public schools, and community centers);
  • Work collaboratively in teams to create a "climate story" grounded in science research and personal experience.
  • Participate in OMSI project teams to help develop and/or deliver climate/sustainability focused programming.
  • Participate in trainings related to: climate science, science communication, program evaluation, social science research, leadership, and climate action;
  • Participate in research and evaluation activities, including:
    • Create and administer surveys along with other tools, and evaluate the effectiveness of climate communication programs at OMSI; Engage as respondents for research and evaluation surveys, interviews, and focus groups;
  • This position is non-exempt, paid hourly
  • This position is special project, scheduled for 20 hours/week for 10 weeks from June 21, 2021 - August 27, 2021 and 4 hours/week in September -May;

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: 45% Sitting 45% Standing 10% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling 20 Pounds
  • Vision requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
  • Noise level is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic) to loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment).

Secondary Functions:

  • Keep current in local and international climate impact movements and climate education technique;
  • Potentially communicate evaluation results from climate story project at conferences and webinar;

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Requirements:

  • Developing and/or demonstrated climate movement experience;
  • Interest in developing interpersonal, verbal, and communication skills that adhere to confidentiality, protocol, and community agreements;

Preferences:

  • Demonstrated experience with climate movement organizing principles such as canvassing, policy, etc.,

Education & Work Experience:

Requirements:

  • Applicant is between the ages of 16-22;
  • Interest or passion in the climate movement;
