The Camp-In Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities, other Camp-In staff, campers and their chaperones during Museum Camp-Ins and Sub-Ins.

 

Participate in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:

  • Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
  • Supporting OMSI's Total Guest Experience (TGE)/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Act as primary OMSI contact for groups. This includes leading check-in and check-out procedures, and contacting emergency services when necessary.
  • Oversee assistants and instructors during the evening.
  • Coordinate with other OMSI staff (OMNIMAX, planetarium, submarine, facilities, etc.) to ensure the Camp-In runs smoothly.
  • This position is non-exempt paid hourly
  • This position is on-call, scheduled for <19 hours/week.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • This position works a 20-hour shift per Camp-In, involving being on-duty from arrival of campers, through overnight supervision, ending with dismissal of program and clean-up. While number of hours worked per Camp-In will remain constant, hours worked per week will vary depending on customer demand for programming.
  • Ability to arrive to work at 3:00 pm on day of scheduled Camp-In.
  • Physical Demands: % Sitting   90% Standing 10% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling 10-50 Pounds
  • Vision requirements include distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).
  • Work environment includes wet or humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions, risk of electric shock
  • Noise level: Loud (examples: metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment)

 

Secondary Functions: 

  • Perform duties and responsibilities outlined in both the Camp-In Instructor and Camp-In Assistant job descriptions as needed.
  • Assume other tasks as assigned by the School and Overnight Programs Assistant Manager.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Requirements: 

  • Ability to effectively manage groups of 50-300 people.
  • Ability to follow basic instructions.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, including communication skills relating to both children and adults.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.

 

Education & Work Experience: 

Requirements: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Working knowledge, and enthusiasm, for informal science education.
  • Minimum 1 year of working with large groups of children and adults in a camp-in or similar experience.

 

Preferences: 

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English.
  • Experience working with volunteers.

 

Additional Requirements/Preferences; Including Licenses and Certifications: 

Requirements: 

  • Current CPR and first aid certification required (training provided).
  • Pre-employment checks such as criminal background check and reference checks.
