At OMSI, our mission is to excite children and families about learning, experimenting, and exchanging ideas to stimulate informed action. While many think of OMSI as a museum, we are so much more, serving audiences across five states with our programming and audiences around the country through our exhibits. We aspire to capitalize on OMSI's high brand favorability to tell the story of OMSI's impact and position the organization as a valuable asset to Oregon. In pursuit of OMSI's goals, the Director of Brand Marketing develops and implements strategies to build our brand, create public awareness, position OMSI as a philanthropic priority, and generate public interest in new and existing programs and long-term strategic plans. This position works with other leaders across the organization to develop well thought-out and effective marketing plans to achieve OMSI's objectives.

The Director of Brand Marketing provides management and leadership for staff in support of creative marketing and communication strategies, programs, and initiatives to expand the museum's audiences and revenues across multiple business lines. This position also collaborates with the COO, senior leaders, project managers, and other staff across OMSI to connect and direct project work to support OMSI's strategic plan. The Director builds and manages a positive, collaborative and effective marketing team through leadership, coaching, and modeling how we work together.

Participate in programs/initiatives to enhance corporate culture, such as:

  • Working effectively with and supporting volunteers throughout the organization
  • Supporting OMSI's Total Guest Experience (TGE)/Customer Service mission & objectives in daily job performance, including diversity initiatives

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Performing the following will involve driving to various locations outside OMSI's corporate headquarters.

  • Develop and implement data-driven strategies to identify and describe OMSI's audiences across OMSI business lines and in collaboration with business line managers to position the museum's products and offerings to meet their needs and achieve OMSI's financial and mission goals.
  • Serve as brand advocate to ensure consistency in messaging across the museum's products, programs, communications, exhibits, and physical infrastructure.
  • Ensure integrated marketing and communication strategies support and reflect the OMSI brand. Implement processes to help internal partners use the brand story, promise and values as a foundation across all communications, programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leaders and staff across OMSI as a team member in executing OMSI's strategic priorities and projects.
  • Manage the Marketing team and coordinate various external partners to devise and execute marketing campaigns and strategic communication efforts. Assets include graphic design, public relations, web, social media, e-mail, advertising, media buying, photography, video production and copywriting.
  • Provide Marketing team partners with coaching, feedback and developmental opportunities. Challenge and inspire team to achieve success by promoting passion, imagination and innovation while embracing diversity, teamwork and a commitment to organizational values.
  • Develop OMSI's annual strategic marketing plan and budget.
  • Identify new business and marketing opportunities both within and outside the organization that align with and support OMSI's strategic plan and brand.
  • Develop, implement and manage marketing metrics and audience data to optimize media mix and track long-term goals; report results to key stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Understand guest profiles to reach core audiences and identify strategies and market placement to reach new audiences; research and evaluate OMSI's audiences and refine marketing model; identify trends.
  • Oversee OMSI's suite of online tools and emerging technologies including but not limited to website, social media, email, mobile, and organic and paid search, and influencer strategies.
  • Oversee the design, production and placement of OMSI's advertising and marketing communication pieces, including but not limited to radio, print, television, outdoor, digital and guerilla.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to plan and execute successful PR campaigns and internal communication programs. Support in the development and management of crisis communications and serve as an OMSI spokesperson when needed.
  • Partner with OMSI's Event Department to develop community based programs and events to help broaden audience participation and strengthen our brand.
  • Foster external partnerships to broaden marketing representation, drive traffic, and support OMSI's community based efforts.
  • Work effectively with a variety of Museum supporters, visitors, members, volunteers and staff.
  • This position is exempt, paid salaried
  • This position is regular full-time, scheduled for 40 hours/week.

  • Noise level is moderate (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Secondary Functions:

  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Marketing and Retail.

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and customer service skills to work effectively with people of diverse talents and backgrounds inside and outside OMSI.
  • Strength in writing and design style with a very high aesthetic level and ability to oversee development and implementation of materials that align with the OMSI brand.
  • Demonstrated people management skills and ability to provide coaching and resources to employees and managers in areas of personal and career goals, staffing initiatives, performance management, and employment relations.
  • Demonstrated abilities in strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Experienced in developing mutually beneficial strategic partnerships with organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated excellence in problem solving, superior attention to detail, and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of general/consumer marketing strategy, campaign execution and branding.
  • Experience in managing website development, search engine optimization, pay per click advertising, mobile, social media and email campaign management.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Proven project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with flexibility.
  • Ability to creatively utilize financial, personnel, volunteer, and contractor resources.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and protocol.

Education & Work Experience:

Requirements:

  • Minimum seven years in progressively responsible marketing and managerial experience, with a proven record of success in a highly dynamic environment.

Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, business administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
